I was born in 1975 in Cordoba, Argentina in a Lebanese family. There I studied, majored and even worked as an accountant. Really.
Fortunately I got depressed soon enough, and discovered photography more or less on time. It was in Prague and it was a photo of Josef Koudelka. After that I left it all behind and started traveling, not knowing very well what I wanted to do with my life but at least knowing what I wouldn’t do ever again.
I studied photography mainly on my own, and made a Master in Photojournalism in the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. During that time I co-founded Ruido Photo in Spain and ActiveStills in Israel and Palestine. I also created a participatory photography organization called ActiveVision and founded the photography school Ruido Formación in Barcelona.
After some years taking photographs I finally felt that I was doing what I like while shooting my project Neutral Fire in Switzerland. Since then I try to focus on my own long-term projects, while I make a living working as a photojournalist. In that quest, I worked for Agence France-Presse as their photographer in D.R.Congo, and mainly in Ethiopia, where I covered the Tigray conflict from the beginning. I currently work as a freelancer for international media and organizations, while I run a small production company called Sling Docs.
My main interest in my projects are human beings, and I consider a very important part of my work learning new languages. That’s why I managed to speak an important amount of non-sense in English, Arabic, Hebrew, French, Italian, Catalan and Portuguese, besides an unlimited amount in Spanish.
My most important project since 2017 has been trying to survive two atomic explosions. They are called Abril and Emil, and we live together in Nairobi, Kenya.
